Two suns, a sky full of clouds, and a rainbow that has just started to fade — Sunrise is a morning caught mid-scene. A big buttery sun sits high in the top corner, throwing long rays of yellow, blush, rose and cream right across the rug. Lower down, a second sun is only just peeking over a bank of clouds, its rays fanning out beneath a soft arc of pink, sage and grey. Between them, fluffy clouds in dove grey and warm ivory drift past, stacked up like a picture book sky.

The rug is hand tufted in a high-low cut pile: every outline in the design is carved down low, while the sun, the rays and the clouds are left standing tall. Run a hand across it and you can feel the picture — the edge of each cloud, the spokes of each ray. It gives the whole scene a soft, sculpted depth that flat rugs simply do not have.

Looking after your rug

• Some shedding in the first few weeks is normal for a hand tufted rug — vacuum regularly and it settles down
• Trim any loose thread with scissors rather than pulling it
• Blot spills straight away with a clean white cloth; avoid soaking the rug
• Rotate it now and then if furniture sits on it, and keep it out of prolonged damp
• Have it professionally cleaned when needed; harsh chemicals can fade the colours
